HELS - Humboldt European Law School

The European Law School Network consists of eight capital city universities, the Universities of Paris 2 (Panthéon-Assas), King's College London and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin - as founding universities - as well as the Università Rom ,La Sapienza', the Universiteit van Amsterdam, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the Universidade Católica Portuguesa and, from fall 2022, the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. The goal of the network is to jointly offer an integrated European legal education - the Juriste Européen (European Lawyer). At Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, the Humboldt European Law School was established in summer 2007 to realize these goals.
Law students from the seven, soon to be eight, member states of the European Union - Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Greece, Portugal and the Netherlands (soon to be joined by Spain) - are offered an education that is tailored for the first time to the conditions and requirements of a Europe that is growing together, both in terms of curricular content and the method of teaching.
As a rule, the training of students leads to three recognized professional qualifications within a period of ten semesters.
In addition, the affiliated European Doctoral College "Unity and Difference in the European Legal Area" (EPEDER) as well as the DFG Research Training Group "Dynamic Integration Order - Europe and its Law between Harmonization and Pluralization" (DynamInt), which emerged from the first three years of this college and is also located at the Law School, represent an integrated international transition into academia. These are based on the unique network of European universities of the European Law School.
