Research Project

The normative scope of the principle of solidarity and its impact on the reconceptualisation of collective property.

 

Vita

He completed his law degree at Sapienza University of Rome earning a Laurea Magistrale (110/110 cum laude). His final dissertation, “The Principle of Proportionality in the Market for Personal Data”, led to the subsequent publication of an excerpt in the journal Medialaws, edited by Prof. Oreste Pollicino.

In 2025, he was awarded a Ph.D. with distinction (cum laude) by Sapienza University of Rome. His dissertation, supervised by Prof. Enrico del Prato, is entitled “Towards a Reconceptualisation of Certain Forms of Collective Property in the Light of Emerging Interests. Sustainable Collective Property and Legal Subjectivity”. An excerpt of the dissertation was published in federalismi.it. The research findings were presented in 2024 at the University of Tuscia during the conference “Dottrine generali della sostenibilità” (“General Doctrines of Sustainability”) and will be further discussed at the University of Pisa at the conference “Percorsi di ricerca di diritto civile” (“Research Paths in Civil Law”).

As part of the European Law School Program, he obtained an LL.M. in European Law and Comparative Law from Humboldt University of Berlin (2018–2019). Under the supervision of Prof. Martin Eifert, he wrote his master’s thesis entitled “Intersections between Data Protection and Competition Law, with Particular Regard to the Voluntariness of Consent”. During his studies in Berlin, he also worked as a research assistant at the Chair of Prof. Stefan Grundmann.

He is a lecturer in postgraduate school (Scuola di specializzazione per le professioni legali) and a research fellow in civil law at the chair of Prof. Enrico del Prato, Sapienza University of Rome. He also collaborates with the Postgraduate School of Administrative Studies (SPISA) at the University of Bologna, and with the Chairs of Administrative Law of Prof. Aristide Police (LUISS Guido Carli University, Rome) and Prof. Alfredo Moliterni (Sapienza University of Rome). In addition, he serves on the editorial board of Rivista Italiana di Scienze Giuridiche and federalismi.it.

He has received several awards for his academic work, including the “Laureato Eccellente” prize (Sapienza Foundation, 2020) for outstanding academic achievement and the “Premio Borsi” awarded by the Umberto Borsi Foundation for Administrative Studies, for the best scholarly article in administrative law of the years 2023–2024. He was ranked first in the selection processes for internships at the Legal Advisory Office of the Bank of Italy and at the Italian Competition Authority, and he was granted a scholarship to attend the Trento Summer School on Advanced EU Competition Law & Economics (2022 and 2023).

Alongside his academic career, Dr Caravita di Toritto has practised law since 2023 at CdT&A Law Firm (Rome and Milan), in the litigation and regulatory departments. Previously, he served as Assistant to Prof. Michele Ainis, Member of the Italian Competition Authority (2022–2023). He also gained international experience as a trainee lawyer at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton (2021-2022, Rome) and legal intern at Noerr (2019, Berlin), as well as during an internship at the Economic Office of the Italian Embassy in the UK (2017, London).

Dr Caravita is a native Italian speaker and is fluent in English and German, with good proficiency in French.
