Research Project

The normative scope of the principle of solidarity and its impact on the reconceptualisation of collective property.

 

Vita

Andrea is a lecturer at the Postgraduate School for Legal Professions and a research fellow in civil law at Sapienza University of Rome, affiliated with the Chair of Prof. Enrico del Prato. He also works within the research group of the Postgraduate School of Administrative Studies (SPISA) at the University of Bologna, as well as with the Chairs of Administrative Law at LUISS Guido Carli University and Sapienza University. He is a member of the editorial boards of Rivista Italiana di Scienze Giuridiche and federalismi.it.

Within the European Law School Programme, he obtained an LL.M. in European and Comparative Law from Humboldt University (2018–2019), supported by a merit-based scholarship from Sapienza University. While in Berlin, he wrote his master’s thesis entitled “Intersections between Data Protection and Competition Law, with Particular Regard to the Voluntariness of Consent,” under the supervision of Prof. Martin Eifert and worked as a research assistant at the Chair of Prof. Stefan Grundmann.

He subsequently graduated with a Laurea Magistrale in Law from Sapienza University (cum laude, 2021). During this period in Rome, he held a two-year merit-based scholarship and worked as a teaching tutor at Sapienza University. His final dissertation, “The Principle of Proportionality in the Market for Personal Data,” resulted in the publication of an excerpt in the journal Rivista di diritto dei media (Medialaws).

In 2025, he was awarded a Ph.D. in Law (cum laude) by Sapienza University. His doctoral dissertation, supervised by Prof. Enrico del Prato was entitled “Towards a Reconceptualisation of Certain Forms of Collective Property in the Light of Emerging Interests. Sustainable Collective Property and Legal Subjectivity”. The research findings were presented in 2024 at the University of Tuscia during the conference “Dottrine generali della sostenibilità” and were discussed at the University of Pisa at the conference “Percorsi di ricerca di diritto civile”.

He has received awards for his academic work, including the Laureato Eccellente prize (Sapienza Foundation, 2020) and the Premio Borsi, awarded by the Umberto Borsi Foundation for Administrative Studies for the best scholarly article in administrative law in 2023–2024. He was ranked first in the selection procedures for internships at the Legal Advisory Office of the Bank of Italy and at the Italian Competition Authority, and he was granted a scholarship to attend the Trento Summer School on Advanced EU Competition Law & Economics (2022 and 2023).

Alongside his academic activity, Dr. Caravita has practised law since 2023 at CdT&A Law Firm (Rome and Milan), working in litigation and regulatory matters. He previously served as assistant to Prof. Michele Ainis during his mandate at the Italian Competition Authority (2022–2023). He also gained international professional experience as a trainee lawyer at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton in Rome (2021-2022), as a legal intern at Noerr in Berlin (2019), and through an internship at the Economic Office of the Italian Embassy in London (2017).

He is a native Italian speaker and is fluent in English and German, with a good knowledge of French.
