HUCELL: Prof. Katharina Pistor


 

For our next HUCELL-Lecture, we have the honour to host Prof. Katharina Pistor (Columbia Law School), who will speak on The Law of Capitalism and How to Transform It. In this anticipated sequel to the themes of her influential work The Code of Capital, she will examine the legal foundations of capitalism, explain why the system has become unsustainable, and explore how rethinking its legal architecture could open pathways to a more just and sustainable future.

 

The lecture will take place on the 21st of October 2025 at 6 pm (c.t.) in Room 213 (Unter den Linden 9).

 

Katharina Pistor studied Law in Freiburg and London. Since 2018 she is professor for comparative law at the Colombia University in New York as well as co-director of the Center for Political Economy, Columbia University. Among her fields of specialties are comparative law, comparative corporate law as well as law and development. For her work, Pistor received many awards such as the Max Planck Research Award in 2012. Her influential book "The code of capital" was published in 2019.
