Daphne Barak-Erez, Supreme Court of Israel
The LSI has been subjected to harsh criticism regarding the event with Judge Barak-Erez from the Supreme Court of Israel on May 26, 2025. An open letter was sent to us as organizers a few hours before the event, but there was no effort to address and discuss worries beforehand, thus no discussion, and the letter was published online. Here, we set aside its statement of "facts", some of which are inaccessible, seem false or distorted. However, some background information to allow for a more nuanced understanding of this has been provided, and to start or continue conversations rather than cut them off. A call to "stop taking up space within Law and Society discussions" is not productive, while an appeal to "rethink" and "consider" is, and is heard and acted upon.
