Conference for Civil Procedure Law Lecturers in Vienna

The Conference for Civil Procedure Law Lecturers took place in Vienna from March 25 to 27. Under the theme “Centrifugal Forces in Civil Procedure Law,” civil procedure lecturers and practitioners from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland discussed the phenomenon of special proceedings—and its implications for general civil procedure law. During a panel discussion held at the end of the conference, Professor Giesela Rühl had the opportunity to discuss the general topic with Professor Paul Oberhammer (University of Vienna), Professor Gerhard Wagner (Humboldt University of Berlin), and Professor Georg Kodek (Supreme Court of the Republic of Austria). In her opening statement, she explored the question of whether the creation of International Commercial Courts will promote the development of special proceedings for commercial disputes and whether International Commercial Courts can stem the shift of commercial disputes toward arbitration.
