March 2–6: Council on General Affairs and Policy of the Hague Conference on Private International Law
From March 2 to 6, the Council on General Affairs and Policy of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH) will take place in The Hague at the Hague Academy of International Law. Prof. Dr. Giesela Rühl will participate in her capacity as Secretary General of the European Association of Private International Law (EAPIL).
The Council on General Affairs and Policy is the HCCH’s governing body. It brings together the HCCH’s more than 90 members, sets the organization’s strategic direction, and decides on new projects and evaluates ongoing ones in the field of private international law and procedural law. In doing so, the Council plays a key role in shaping the future development of multilateral conventions and soft-law instruments designed to promote cross-border judicial cooperation in the field of civil law.
EAPIL, as an academic association of leading European scholars in private international law and procedural law, has been invited as an observer. It contributes its academic expertise to the deliberations. EAPIL’s participation ensures that academic insights and practical experience from European research are incorporated into the international discussions.
This year's Council will focus in particular on the further development of existing conventions, (potential) new projects in the areas of parenthood, international jurisdiction, and electronic legal transactions. In addition, strategic issues related to global cooperation in private international law will be discussed.
With the participation of Prof. Dr. Giesela Rühl, EAPIL underscores its commitment to the academic support and further development of private international law and procedural law on a global level.
