Center for Advanced Studies: Reflexive Globalisation and the Law

Colonial Legacies and their Implications in the 21st Century

A new Center for Advanced Studies "Reflexive Globalisation and the Law: Colonial Legacies and their Implications in the 21st Century" (ReGlo.Law) will be established at Humboldt University Law School, starting in the fall of 2025 and dedicated to studying the development of law and legal scholarship in evermore globalised and multipolar times. The Center is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft through its Kolleg-Forschungsgruppen-Programm.

Institutionally, ReGlo.Law is affiliated with the Chair for Public and Comparative Law (Philipp Dann) and the Chair for Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, International Criminal Law and Modern Legal History (Florian Jeßberger) at Humboldt University of Berlin. Accordingly, the main areas of work of the Center are constitutional law and (international) criminal law, but the Center intends to engage with disciplines beyond law, in particular global history, political theory and anthropology, as well as civil society at large.

Following the Institute of Advanced Study model, the ReGlo.Law Center for Advanced Studies seeks to convene up to 10 Fellows from across regions, genders, career levels and disciplinary backgrounds in a given academic year. The Center is committed to selecting a diverse array of scholars that will include Senior Fellows (distinguished academics, including professors and senior researchers), Junior Fellows (postdoctoral researchers and doctoral candidates in the advanced stages of their dissertation work) and Practice Fellows (activists and experienced professionals). Please refer to our Call for Fellows 2025/26 for more information and feel free to contact us via email.
