Pauline Endres de Oliveira

Pauline Endres de Oliveira has been Professor of Law and Migration at Humboldt University Berlin since October 2023. In this role, she leads the Law and Migration research area at both the Berlin Institute for Empirical Integration and Migration Research and at the Law and Society Institute at the Faculty of Law. She also coordinates and supports the legal training of the Refugee Law Clinic Berlin. Her research focuses on migration law, particularly its EU and international legal dimensions, as well as the protection of international human rights.

Pauline Endres de Oliveira studied law in Berlin and Paris (first state examination in 2010). During her legal clerkship at the Berlin Court of Appeal, she worked in the legal department of UNHCR Berlin and at the Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United Nations in Rome. After passing her second state examination (2012), she worked as a lawyer specializing in migration law and as a legal expert for UNHCR in Berlin. Most recently, she conducted research at Justus Liebig University in an international research project on the UN migration pact (Horizon 2020) and taught migration law at the University of Hildesheim.

As part of her doctorate at Justus Liebig University Giessen (under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Jürgen Bast), she conducted research as a visiting scholar at the Refugee Studies Centre of the University of Oxford and at the Danish Human Rights Institute in Copenhagen. Her dissertation "Safe Access to Asylum in Europe" was awarded the dissertation prize of the Justus Liebig University Giessen and the doctoral prize of the Juristische Studiengesellschaft Giessen e.V. (Giessen Law Society). The publication was funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).

Pauline Endres de Oliveira is a member of the supervisory board of the human rights organization JUMEN e.V., a non-profit association that is particularly committed to the protection of fundamental and human rights in Germany through strategic litigation.

She is also part of the organizing committee of the Hohenheim Days on Migration Law (Hohenheimer Tage zum Migrationsrecht) and a member of the Migration Law Network and the Refugee Research Network.

Since 2022, she has represented Humboldt University as a permanent member of the Berlin Senate's Advisory Council on Migration.
