Insights into the HCLC

During the last cycle of the HCLC in the academic year 2017/18 the HCLC was able  to support consumers in successfully enforcing their claims in numerous cases. The cases that were dealt with concerned diverse problems in the area of consumer law.

Typical cases in the year 2017/18

The cases in the year 2017/18 dealt with topics such as the termination of  a telecommunication contract, the withdrawal of a contract concluded via the internet, compensation in the event of flight delays, disputes concerning decorative repair and debt collection claims.

Strikingly, certain situations recurred often: Many cases were against airlines and telephone providers.

Practice Days and Projects

Besides the continuous case work the participants had the chance to visit the Verbraucherzentrale Berlin (VZ Berlin) and the Schlichtungsstelle für den öffentlichen Personenverkehr e.V. (SÖP) for a day. The gained insights and positive experiences were a valuable contribution to their own legal advice work.

We are very happy that these cooperations will continue in the future.

Publications

In the annual working paper series "Consumer Law in Practice" questions that are part of the students' practical work are treated academically. The publication is intended for an expert audience and gives students the chance for a first academic publication.
