Evaluation of the use of Bodycams at the Berlin Police and the Berlin Fire Department

From September 2023 to August 2024, an interdisciplinary team of the LSI will conduct an empirical study on the use of bodycams by the Berlin police and the Berlin fire department. Since the House of Representatives created the corresponding legal basis in the General Security and Order Law of Berlin in 2021, the Berlin police and the rescue service of the Berlin fire department have used bodycams. The evaluation, conducted by Prof. Dr. Talja Blokland, Prof. Dr. Anna-Bettina Kaiser, Prof. Dr. Silvia von Steinsdorff, Dr. Nina Margies, and Roman Hensel, will look at both the normative basis of the use of bodycams and evaluate the practical experience gained in using the cameras in the police service and the fire department since the start of the pilot phase. The final report will be presented to the Berlin House of Representatives.
