Working Group for Overseas Comparative Constitutional Law (AÜV)
The Arbeitskreis für Überseeische Verfassungsvergleichung (Working Group for Overseas Comparative Constitutional Law, AUeV) is an association of lawyers researching and working on the law of the Global South. In addition to the engagement with public law in countries of the Global South, the AUeV reflects the role of the Global South in international law as well as issues of transnational law and ‘law and development’. The AUeV was founded in the 1970s by Herbert Krüger with the aim of giving the African, Asian and Latin American countries more importance in German-speaking comparative law. Since 1975, the members of the AUeV have met annually at various venues to discuss current constitutional issues. In addition to working on issues concerning public law in countries of the Global South, the AUeV is increasingly working on the role of the Global South in international law and on the law of development. The annual meetings are financed by the Professor Herbert Kruger Foundation für die Förderung der Überseeischen Verfassungsvergleichun.
Lawyers and members of other disciplines interested in the law of the Global South are encouraged to join the AUeV. Especially young researchers working on the Global South are welcome to present their work at the annual meetings of the AUeV. There is no membership fee.
Closely linked to the working group is the journal Verfassung und Recht in Übersee (VRÜ) / World Comparative Law (WCL), the only journal in Germany dedicated exclusively to the legal systems of the Global South.
