Kurzbeschreibung:
The purpose of this course is to develop students' interest and critical understanding of the main literature on feminism and gender studies which have not only challenged social, political and economic inequalities and discrimination within male dominated, patriarchal societies but also criticized the 'knowledge' itself. It also aims to examine the relation between feminist theory and political and social practice. In order to reach this aim, an array of articles from a variety of disciplines and theoretical orientations, such as feminist standpoint theory, marxist theory, poststructuralism and postcolonialism, are clustered around themes. With a combination of lectures and seminar discussions, students who successfully finish this course will gain an in depth understanding of conceptual frameworks, theories and discussions in feminism and gender studies.
The seminar ist offered for BA Gender Studies students (Module 6 Free choice, Module 4 Gender Orders) and for law students as an additional course.
