DAJV- and HCeLP-event on Oktober, 18: American Democracy and the Rule of Law

On Friday, October 18, 2024, the German-American Lawyers Association (DAJV) and the Humboldt Center for the Legal Profession (HCeLP) are hosting a discussion on American democracy and the rule of law. Under the title “American Democracy and the Rule of Law - In the Shadow of the 2024 Presidential Election”, the focus will be on the role of law in the current US election campaign.

The topic: The 2024 US presidential elections are shaped by legal challenges, particularly with regard to the numerous proceedings against the Republican candidate Donald Trump. The Supreme Court has recently also made significant decisions concerning presidential immunity. Against this backdrop, this election is more than ever about the American understanding of the law and the rule of law.

About the speaker: Prof. Russell A. Miller from Washington & Lee University (Virginia) researches and teaches public law and comparative law. He is very familiar with German law and has worked as a research assistant at the Federal Constitutional Court, received an LL.M. from the University of Frankfurt am Main and headed the “Max Planck Law Network” from 2020 - 2022. He is also co-founder and co-editor of the “German Law Journal”.
